SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — It took an extra five minutes, but the NBA team from San Antonio, Texas, has won three in a row. The Spurs outlasted a short-handed Utah Jazz team 117-111 in overtime on Wednesday night, with Victor Wembanyama posting 36 points and 14 rebounds.

San Antonio did not look sharp early. Peterson took an elbow to the face from Wembanyama on a dunk try in the opening minutes and had to head to the locker room for a time. Utah jumped out to a 32-22 edge after one quarter, built a lead as big as 11 and was still up 55-51 at halftime, even though Wembanyama had 21 by the break.

Devin Vassell helped turn it around. He scored 17 of his 21 points in the second half to give the Spurs another scoring option. San Antonio led 105-100 late in regulation, but Brice Sensabaugh and Keyonte George scored on consecutive trips to tie it, and the Spurs came up empty on their final four shots, including a De’Aaron Fox jumper at the horn.

Overtime belonged to the visitors. Sensabaugh hit a 3-pointer to open the extra session, and then San Antonio ripped off 12 straight points. The Spurs forced four turnovers in overtime and held Utah to 2-of-7 shooting.

George led the Jazz with a season-best 31 points, and Ace Bailey had 19. Rookie Darryn Peterson scored 18 but did not play late in regulation or in overtime. Utah was missing three big men who start: Jaren Jackson, out with a right-knee MCL tear, Lauri Markkanen with a sprained right wrist and Jusuf Nurkic, who has not played yet this season because of a foot injury.

The Spurs improved to 3-2, while Utah fell to 1-4. San Antonio forward Tobias Harris has yet to play this season because of a calf strain.
