SAN ANTONIO, Texas — San Antonio barbecue fans finally have a date. Terry Black’s Barbecue, the family-run chain that started in Austin, will open its first restaurant in the city on Tuesday, Nov. 17, with the first customers welcomed at 10:30 that morning.

The new spot sits at 2102 Broadway, close to Pearl, and becomes the eighth Terry Black’s. Plans for a San Antonio location were first floated back in 2021. Three siblings launched the first Terry Black’s in 2014 on Austin’s Barton Springs Road and named it for their father, and the business has since grown into Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, Waco, Lockhart and New Braunfels.

The kitchen will cook the chain’s full menu: smoked sliced brisket, beef and pork ribs, sides like potato salad and mac and cheese, plus banana pudding and peach cobbler for dessert. Starting on opening day, diners can make reservations through OpenTable, order delivery through Uber Eats or ask about catering. A paid behind-the-scenes package adds a private tour of the smoking pits, a chance to talk with the pitmasters and a sit-down barbecue meal at a table held for the group.

The restaurant will run every day of the week. From Sunday through Thursday it will serve from 10:30 in the morning until 9:30 at night and stay open until 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.

The parent company, Black Family Hospitality, is also building a boutique hotel with 40 rooms and a bathhouse of about 9,800 square feet on the same property. That project is targeted for completion in 2028 and will be run separately from the barbecue restaurant.
