Born on August 23, 1937, in Corpus Christi, Texas, Elida was the second of five children. She married Roger Santos Robles, with whom she enjoyed a 65-year union until his passing in 2023. Elida is survived by three sons: Michael, Samuel, and Mark, as well as a legacy of love and kindness.
Elida’s life was dedicated to her family, faith, and community. She graduated from Roy Miller High School in 1956 and began working for a traveling priest in San Antonio in 1957. This pivotal moment foreshadowed her commitment to church and community. Shortly after her move to San Antonio, she met Roger, and the two were married within a year.
Throughout her life, Elida actively instilled faith in her sons through teachings and participation in church activities. The family was deeply involved in the Catholic Charismatic Renewal movement in the early 1970s, where she played a vital role. Elida participated in prayer meetings, spoke in tongues, and contributed her leadership to Bible studies.
For over 30 years, Elida and Roger were engaged leaders in a prayer group at St. Mary’s University, offering spiritual support and guidance. Her organizational skills shone through as she helped facilitate prayer meetings and led music for these events. After her sons left home in the early 1980s, Elida found employment at a Christian bookstore, earning her the affectionate nickname “The Book Lady.” Over 15 years, she helped promote Catholic literature and religious products, vastly impacting the local Christian community.
Later, in the late 1980s, Elida and Roger began attending St. Mark the Evangelist Church, where they continued their participation in numerous church activities. Elida served as a Eucharistic minister, spearheaded Bible study groups, and sold religious materials during church events. The parish community recognized her unwavering contributions throughout her 30 years at St. Mark, cherishing her as a faithful servant of God.
In their later years, both Elida and Roger faced health struggles. Roger was diagnosed with dementia in 2015. After his death in 2023, Elida’s health began to decline.
