School community concerned about safety after teacher allegations

News Summary

Christopher Uresti, a former teacher at Southwest Independent School District, was arrested after allegations of grooming and sexually assaulting a 12-year-old student. Uresti faces serious charges and is currently detained. His resignation from teaching followed earlier allegations of inappropriate behavior. The assaults reportedly occurred multiple times after a rekindled connection with the victim through social media. The school district has pledged to cooperate with the ongoing investigation as the allegations raise serious concerns about student safety in educational environments.

San Antonio, Texas – Christopher Patrick Uresti, a 23-year-old former teacher at Southwest Independent School District (SWISD), has been arrested following allegations that he groomed and sexually assaulted a 12-year-old student. The arrest took place after the student reported the incidents to school officials, prompting an immediate investigation.

Uresti now faces serious charges, including aggravated sexual assault of a child, and is currently detained at the Bexar County Jail. His bail is set at $300,000, which bars him from being released pending further legal proceedings.

Uresti was employed by SWISD as a substitute teacher and educational aide from October 2022 until his resignation in October 2024. His resignation followed earlier allegations of inappropriate behavior involving students, which sparked concern within the community. Reports have emerged indicating that Uresti had a history of sending inappropriate messages and communicating with students through text and online gaming.

Following his resignation, Uresti continued to frequent school events, a decision that raised eyebrows among parents and school officials. His presence at these events led to multiple complaints, resulting in a criminal trespass warning from the school district. It has been reported that Uresti misrepresented himself as a coach to gain access to these school functions, despite not having any official affiliation with that position.

The victim first encountered Uresti while in 5th grade at Kriewald Elementary, where he worked as a substitute teacher. Their connection rekindled in 2024 through social media platforms like Instagram and text messaging, leading to the distressing incidents. Reports indicate that the victim confided in her teacher about her harrowing experiences of sexual assault, revealing that these incidents occurred multiple times.

According to the investigation, the sexual assaults transpired on three different occasions from February to March 2025. On each occasion, Uresti allegedly picked the victim up from her home, drove to secluded locations, and forced her to perform sexual acts. Initial resistance from the victim was met with threats and coercion, highlighting the severity of the allegations. During one incident, when Uresti unlocked the door of the vehicle, the victim managed to escape through a ditch. In a subsequent incident, after being threatened, she kicked Uresti in the face and fled from the situation.

The final incident reportedly occurred in a dark neighborhood where Uresti again assaulted the victim before returning her home late at night around 1 a.m. The distressing circumstances led to an outcry from the victim, prompting her teacher to report the allegations to authorities, which ultimately led to Uresti’s arrest.

In response to the allegations, SWISD has publicly stated their commitment to cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation. District officials described the allegations surrounding Uresti as deeply troubling. Further developments may influence the future of his educator certification, which is currently under investigation by the Texas Education Agency but remains valid as of now.

These serious allegations raise significant concerns about student safety within educational environments and underline the importance of thorough investigations into claims of misconduct by educators.
