SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Fresh off their first win of the season, the San Antonio Spurs return home to San Antonio, Texas, to face a Sacramento Kings team that has yet to win.
San Antonio is 1-2 and ninth in the Western Conference after pulling away from Dallas for a 122-106 road victory. Sacramento is 0-3 and sits 15th in the West after three straight losses to open the year.
Against the Mavericks, the Spurs took control after halftime. Victor Wembanyama led the way with 23 points, seven rebounds and four blocks, and Dylan Harper added 22 points. Stephon Castle steadied the offense with 19 points, eight assists and three steals, De’Aaron Fox chipped in 17 points and seven assists, and the Spurs collected 13 offensive rebounds. Devin Vassell added 11 points and six boards. Dallas played that game without Cooper Flagg and Kyrie Irving but hung around for three quarters before San Antonio pulled clear.
The two clubs headed in opposite directions last season. San Antonio finished 62-20 and shot 48.3% from the floor, while Sacramento went just 22-60 and made 34.0% of its 3-point tries.
The Spurs list forward Tobias Harris as day to day with a calf issue, and Jayden Quaintance remains out with a knee injury. The Kings are much more short-handed. Ben Simmons is lost for the season with an Achilles injury, and Keegan Murray, Dylan Cardwell and Maxime Raynaud are all sidelined as well.
Bench help could matter again for San Antonio. Julian Champagnie scored 12 points and Keldon Johnson grabbed six rebounds in reserve roles in Dallas.
