If you’re planning on heading up towards the Texas Hill Country, you might want to take extra precautions as they could see up to a tenth of an inch of ice. The freezing rain and light precipitation are expected to start between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Friday, February 21, and the risks from this freezing rain could linger all the way until about 9 a.m. on Saturday, February 22. Thankfully, temperatures are projected to rise above freezing after Saturday morning, and we should see a warm-up continue through February 23.
School Districts Take Action
In light of the impending weather, the San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD) is being proactive by rescheduling or canceling student events that were set to happen after school on Friday. Attention, Southside ISD families! It looks like several changes are happening due to the weather forecast. The Somerset Tournament in baseball has been rescheduled to March 22. Unfortunately, the Boys and Girls Track Meet at Central Catholic has been canceled, and varsity soccer games will also be rescheduled for later dates. Not to forget, the softball games at the Pearsall Tournament are canceled as well.
The Edgewood Independent School District (EISD) is taking precautions by canceling all activities starting at 6 p.m. on Friday through noon on Saturday. They will continue to monitor the weather for any updates. The Northside ISD is also rescheduling or canceling after-school events following consultations with the National Weather Service to ensure safety.
Meanwhile, the North East Independent School District (NEISD) has gone ahead with canceling and rescheduling all after-school events on Friday, as well as delaying Saturday morning activities to keep everyone safe. Not to be left out, Alamo Heights Independent School District (AHISD) has decided to reschedule the boys’ basketball playoff game from Friday to Saturday at 1 p.m., and soccer games scheduled for Friday have been moved up to earlier in the afternoon to beat the icy weather.
