San Antonio Community Unites to Remember Richard Villarreal

It is with heavy hearts that the San Antonio community gathers to remember Richard Villarreal, a cherished alumnus of John Jay High School, who passed away recently. Richard, who graduated in 1989, has left a lasting imprint in the hearts of those who knew him, and his legacy of kindness and love will undoubtedly live on.

Beloved Family Man and Friend

Richard, affectionately known as Ricky, was a devoted father to his two precious daughters, Mia and Ella. He also leaves behind his joy—his grandson, Lazurus, who he fondly referred to as “Honey Boy”. His love extended beyond his immediate family; he was a caring partner to Erica for over twenty years and a respected son to his mother, Sabina. Richard is remembered for his strong family bond, having four brothers—Carlos, Bobby, Jimmy, and Ruben—along with half-sisters Barbara and Dolores. He also had a close relationship with his stepdaughters, Megan and Courtney, and the numerous nieces and nephews who adored him.

Life of Passion and Dedication

Richard was a true artisan who found his calling in carpentry at the age of 43. His passion for his craft defined him as a remarkable carpenter who took great pride in his work. Described as a true craftsman, he not only created beauty with his hands but also nurtured it in his relationships. Friends and family describe him as unfailingly kind, generous, and always willing to lend a hand.

Giving Back to the Community

Richard’s heart extended beyond his family; he found joy in giving back. He dedicated his time to volunteering with organizations like Rebuilding Together and Habitat for Humanity, where he mentored many individuals. His legacy is not only marked by his craftsmanship but also by his steadfast belief in seeking the good in others and living a life grounded in love and positivity.

A Dream to Be Completed

At the time of his passing, Richard was constructing a casita on his childhood home property, a project that embodied his love for family and tradition. In the spirit of honoring his memory, friends and community members are encouraged to support his daughters in completing this dream project.
