San Antonio Celebrates Life of 104-Year-Old Bobbie Lucille Veitch Davis

San Antonio, Texas – Bobbie Lucille Veitch Davis, a beloved figure known for her vibrant spirit and community involvement, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2025, at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio. She was 104 years old. Bobbie surrounded herself with caring friends, heartfelt music, and prayer as she moved on from this world, leaving behind a legacy celebrated by many.

Bobby, affectionately known as “Miss Bobbie,” was born on November 25, 1920, in Hawkins, Texas. She spent her childhood on her grandparents’ farm, a place that would instill in her a love for family and the land. Bobbie’s early education was a mix of part-time schooling and homeschooling from a highly regarded teacher. She eventually graduated from high school in Quitman, Texas, after completing night business classes, setting the stage for her future career.

Her professional journey began with the Federal Government in the Department of Agriculture, where she worked for two years before transferring to Athens, Texas. In November 1949, Bobbie married Harry Clinton Davis, who would come to be known as the love of her life. The couple first settled in Athens, but life took them to various locations, especially after Harry was called back to active duty during the Korean Conflict.

During their time in Tacoma, Washington, where Harry served as a Ward Commander at Madigan Army Hospital, Bobbie was employed in the officer’s personnel office. After his return from duty, the couple moved back to Athens and eventually settled in San Antonio in 1953. Here, Bobbie continued her career in the Office of Personnel Management with the Federal Government, while Harry worked as a mortician.

A Life Rich in Community Engagement

Bobbie’s enduring love for San Antonio saw her actively engaged in various community activities. She became a cherished member of the Little Church of La Villita, contributing significantly to the congregation during the tenures of Rev. Paul Soupist and Rev. Edmonds. Her dedication extended to volunteering as an official for the Starving Artist Art Show sponsored by the church until her health began to decline.

In addition to her religious involvement, Bobbie nurtured her passions for fine art, sewing, and travel, particularly after Harry’s passing and her retirement. She cherished moments at her lake house on Lake Lydia in Quitman, Texas, where many friends and family will remember her vibrant personality and warmth. A devoted member of organizations such as the Order of La Beauceant, Eastern Star, and Daughters of the Nile for over 50 years, she also participated actively in The Red Hat Society and was celebrated in local media, including the cover of San Antonio magazine.

Honoring Bobbie’s Legacy

Slated to occur on May 9, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., a Memorial Service in Bobbie’s honor is scheduled at Porter Loring Mortuary North, located at 2102 N Loop 1604 E, San Antonio, Texas. Interment for Bobbie will take place at a future date at Athens City Cemetery in Athens, Texas.

Bobbie is survived by a multitude of friends, nieces, and nephews, each sharing cherished memories and deep affection for her. The community she loved and served so well expressed their gratitude through heartfelt gestures, including a drive-by birthday parade celebrating her milestone 100th birthday just a few years ago. Special acknowledgments have been made for the care offered by Dr. Hoan Pho and his staff throughout the years, along with the staff at the Village of the Incarnate Word, who provided assistance in her later years.

As San Antonio mourns the loss of Bobbie Lucille Veitch Davis, her remarkable life serves as an enduring inspiration to many who were fortunate to have known her.
