The 13-year-old boy, who displayed alarming behavior and had been previously suspended for researching mass shootings, faces terrorism charges, marking Bexar County’s first such case. Pardo allegedly purchased ammunition and tactical gear for her son, contributing to the investigation after he was arrested for his role in the plot. The situation raises serious concerns about youth violence and parental responsibilities.

San Antonio – Ashley Rosalinda Pardo, a 33-year-old mother, has been formally charged with aiding her 13-year-old son in a terrorist attack plot against a local middle school. The charges come as the boy faces allegations of terrorism, marking the first instance of such a charge in Bexar County.

Pardo is accused of purchasing ammunition, magazines, and tactical gear for her son, who has exhibited alarming behavior, including a fascination with mass shootings. School officials had previously suspended the boy for researching a mass shooting on a school-issued computer. This troubling interest led to further concerns when disturbing drawings, which depicted violent themes and included a “suicide route” map alongside references to mass shootings, were discovered by school authorities in January.

After being suspended again in April, the boy attempted suicide and was placed in an alternative educational program until he returned to Jeremiah Rhodes Middle School on May 8. However, on May 13, the boy was arrested for his role in a purported terror attack, prompting an immediate investigation into Pardo’s involvement.

Subsequent to the boy’s arrest, police were alerted to alarming items found in his possession by a family member. This included the boy striking a live bullet with a hammer. The family member disclosed that Pardo had actively purchased ammunition and tactical equipment for her son. Reports indicate that she had taken him to military surplus stores where military gear was acquired as part of a babysitting arrangement.

During the investigation, the boy’s grandmother stumbled upon multiple loaded magazines, an improvised explosive device constructed from a mortar-style firework, as well as a note that made references to mass shooting events and white supremacy ideologies. Prior to this incident, local law enforcement, child protective services, and school officials had reached out to Pardo regarding her son’s concerning behavior, but she allegedly dismissed their warnings.

On the day of his arrest, the boy arrived at school dressed in a mask, camouflage jacket, and tactical pants. However, he left shortly after, raising fears among police and school officials that he might return to enact targeted violence.

Pardo has since been released on a $75,000 bond with specific conditions including house arrest, wearing a GPS monitor, undergoing weekly drug and alcohol testing, and restrictions on firearm possession. She has a pre-indictment hearing scheduled for July 17, but at this time, she has not entered a plea and does not have an attorney listed in public court records.

In response to the events, school officials communicated with parents, reinforcing their commitment to maintaining safety and security within the school environment. The situation highlights ongoing concerns about youth violence and the responsibilities of parents in supervising their children’s activities and interests.

The case continues to evolve as authorities gather more information, with both Pardo and her son currently facing serious legal repercussions for their alleged actions. This situation not only reflects the challenges posed by youth and violent ideologies but also raises questions about the support systems in place for families dealing with potentially dangerous behaviors.
