San Antonio is gearing up for a vibrant celebration of Pride Month and the 30th anniversary of its Central Library with a series of festive events throughout the weekend starting on May 31.

The Central Library, an iconic landmark painted in a distinctive “Enchilada Red,” will officially kick off its summer activities with a free event on Saturday. This renowned hub for knowledge and community will serve as a focal point for festivities as it celebrates its anniversary alongside Pride Month.

Simultaneously, the Pride River Parade & Celebration is set to take place on the same day, beginning at 5 p.m. at La Villita’s Arneson River Theatre. This spirited parade will showcase an array of colorful barges uniquely designed for the event, accompanied by DJs, live bands, and impersonators, celebrating the LGBTQ+ community in style. The festive atmosphere will extend along Museum Reach from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and continue through downtown from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. The parade is free to attend, inviting residents and visitors alike to join in the festivities.

Elsewhere Bar & Kitchen, located at 102 E. Jones Ave., will host its own Pride celebration on May 31 in conjunction with the parade. Celebrations at the bar will include a lively drag show from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and various giveaways throughout the evening. Those interested in securing a prime seat with a view of the parade are encouraged to make reservations by contacting the venue directly via email or phone.

On June 7, the Love Shack Boutique will host a Drag Queen Bingo Brunch at 11:30 a.m., with proceeds benefiting the Thrive Youth Center. This engaging event will feature delicious breakfast pastries, refreshing mimosas, and a naughty waffle bar, all for a ticket price of $25.

Additionally, the House of Queer Noise will take place on June 7 at The Starlighter from 8 p.m. to midnight. This event supports trans rights and queer youth organizations, with presale tickets available for $10 online and $15 at the door.

Further along in the month, the Giddy Up Pride Pool Bash is scheduled for June 13 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at The Ranch Motel, promising a fun gathering for those looking to celebrate in a relaxed environment. Following that, the Pride Pageant will occur on June 19 at 9 p.m. at the Brass Monkey. The pageant will offer food, entertainment, and a health fair to attendees.

A major Pride celebration, titled “Pride is Bigger Than Texas,” is slated for June 28 at Crockett Park from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Attendees can purchase tickets at the gate using cash or eTickets for entry into this grand event, which promises to be a highlight of the month.

Moreover, to add to the joyous atmosphere, the San Antonio Botanical Garden will host “Make Music San Antonio” on June 21 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. This festival aims to showcase a variety of free live music performances across numerous genres. Participants are advised to register in advance to ensure their spot at this musical celebration.

As San Antonio prepares for a weekend of vibrant and inclusive events, community members and visitors will have ample opportunities to engage in festivities that honor both pride and the landmark library’s rich history.
