San Antonio International Airport reported its highest daily rainfall since May 25, 2013, making June 12 the tenth rainiest day documented in the city’s history. In just three hours, the area received a staggering 5.6 inches of rain, with an alarming four inches falling within a single hour. This rainfall dramatically exceeded the average June precipitation of just over three inches.
Emergency services responded to more than 70 water rescue calls as motorists became stranded in the unexpectedly deep flooding. Around 19 individuals were reported to be trapped in floodwaters, and firefighters successfully rescued 10, with four individuals requiring treatment for minor injuries.
Authorities have confirmed that all five individuals who lost their lives were inside vehicles that were overtaken by floodwaters. In addition, the flood swept away 15 vehicles, moving them approximately half a mile upstream.
