San Antonio, Texas – Gumecindo N. Reynero, a devoted family man and community pillar, passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on June 18, 2025. Surrounded by loved ones, he leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and cherished memories that will be honored by his family and friends.

Born on January 13, 1930, in Buda, Texas, Reynero was a man of deep faith, known for his regular attendance at church services, particularly at the San Juan del Villa Church in San Juan, Texas. Throughout his life, he made “Promesas” or promises to God and expressed gratitude by returning to church whenever his prayers were answered. His religious devotion was a guiding force in his life, one that influenced not only his actions but also the love he shared with his family.

Reynero is survived by his two children, Gumecindo (Dora) Reynero Jr. and J. Elizabeth (Mark) Vasquez. He also leaves behind several grandchildren, including Clarice, Camilla, Erika, Rebekah (Demetrie), Nathalie (Bryant), Mark Jr. (Rauchelle), and Nathan, in addition to great-grandchildren. He is reunited in death with his beloved wife, Francisca, as well as his parents and siblings.

As a loving husband and caring father, Reynero supported his family throughout their lives. Affectionately referred to as “Our beloved Daddy,” he took pride in participating in family functions and would often surprise his children with treats on payday. His commitment to family was evident in the cherished vacations they took together, creating unforgettable memories at destinations like Sea World and spending time at parks such as Brackenridge and Garner State Park.

Reynero was born and raised in Laredo, Texas, and lived in several states, including Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, and Colorado, before settling in San Antonio for 68 years with his wife. Despite completing only up to the second grade due to family work responsibilities, he excelled in reading, writing, and mathematics. His practical skills, combined with a robust work ethic, led him to begin working at the young age of 10, picking vegetables and cotton.

Before marrying Francisca, Reynero worked for a railroad company in Michigan. He later dedicated 35 years as a supervisor at Gary Pools in San Antonio, where his love for swimming pools was evident, even reflected in the choice of a blue casket for his eternal rest. A jack of all trades, he was talented in various tasks, including car repair, cement work, and carpentry, demonstrating a commitment to helping others with any task that needed attention.

Reynero’s passion for family extended to his role as a grandfather, showing unwavering support to his granddaughters by accompanying them to appointments and attending their special events. His customers remembered him fondly as Dad, Pops, Grandpa, Popo, Amigo, or Compadre, reflecting the bonds he formed with those around him.

In addition to his family ties, Reynero enjoyed a variety of pastimes, including watching “The Price is Right,” rooting for the Cowboys, Astros, and Missions, and indulging in cuisines like Chinese, Italian, and Mexican. Family gatherings were often celebrated with his famous barbecues. His playful spirit was also evident in his fondness for casinos, where he enjoyed winning on scratch-off lottery tickets with an impressive 85% success rate.

As his family reflects on the remarkable life of Gumecindo N. Reynero, they urge everyone to cherish their loved ones, create memories, and hold each other close. His legacy of love, faith, and kindness will forever live on in their hearts.
