San Antonio, Texas – Carol Ina McClusky, a dedicated educator and community volunteer, passed away at the age of 89 on July 2, 2025. Born on February 5, 1936, in Seguin, Texas, she made significant contributions to her community and the educational landscape both locally and abroad. McClusky’s family has announced that a Rosary service and Funeral Mass will be scheduled shortly, with burial planned at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery alongside her late husband and daughter. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to San Antonio Pets Alive in her honor.

McClusky was the youngest of four children born to Sophia and Edwin Forshage. With a joyful childhood in Seguin, she commonly rode her bicycle to school and engaged with the families in her neighborhood. An amusing anecdote from her early years involves her brother, Edwin, Jr., trying to trade her for candy or cowboy boots when she was just two weeks old. In summer, she enjoyed cooling off in the Geronimo Creek and worked as a lifeguard at Starkey Park, where she also taught swimming lessons.

She pursued higher education at Texas Tech University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education. It was there that she met her future husband, William McClusky, who served as an Air Force flight instructor. Their marriage marked the beginning of a life enriched by travels and cultural experiences, as they lived in various countries for 25 years while William served in the military.

During their time in the military, McClusky honed her language skills, becoming proficient in German and French, and capable of conversing in Arabic. She taught children from 32 different countries at Riyadh International School and contributed to the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Planning as a technical librarian. While living in Jeddah, she developed an expertise in the region’s history, particularly the 300-year-old merchant villas, which led to her giving guided tours of the historic district.

After settling back in San Antonio, McClusky dedicated her time to volunteer work, spending ten years at the SAMM Shelter. She actively engaged with the San Antonio Art League, the Southwest School of Art, and was notably the Docent Chairman at the McNay Art Museum during the 2004-2005 term. Her artistic endeavors extended to personal hobbies as well; she was an accomplished painter, enjoyed tennis, and taught art classes in her spare time.

Socially, McClusky maintained a rich personal life, participating in two different book clubs, enjoying games of Mah Jongg, and serving as chairwoman for Le Club from 2012 to 2013. She is survived by her son, Will, a sister-in-law, Alta Forshage, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, her parents, siblings, and her daughter Meg.

The legacy of Carol Ina McClusky lives on through her contributions to education, the joys she brought to her community, and the love she shared with her family and friends. Her impact will be remembered by many in San Antonio and beyond.
