News Summary

The Peanut Butter Bowl returns as Texas schools join forces to combat hunger through high school football events. The initiative, which started as a local rivalry, has expanded to involve numerous schools across Texas, collecting jars of peanut butter for local food pantries. With a spirit of community and competition, this charity event aims to raise awareness about food insecurity, showcasing the dedication of students and families to help those in need.

San Antonio, Texas – The 10th Annual Peanut Butter Bowl is set to take place from August 28–30, 2025, with the aim of fighting hunger in Texas through a series of exciting high school football events. The Peanut Butter Bowl, which began in 2016 as a competition between two local teams, the Johnson Jaguars and Brandeis Broncos, has grown significantly over the years. By 2024, the initiative expanded to include 104 high schools, showcasing the extensive community commitment to addressing food insecurity.

Since its inception, the Peanut Butter Bowl has successfully collected over 364,000 jars of peanut butter, translating to approximately 182 tons of food. This collective effort has provided meals for nearly 1.5 million Texans, making it a vital initiative in the state. Participating schools each choose a local food pantry or nonprofit organization that will directly benefit from the donations collected during the event. Donations can be made in person, where community members are encouraged to bring jars of peanut butter, or online at PeanutButterBowl.com, where every $2 contributes to the purchase of one jar of peanut butter.

This year’s Peanut Butter Bowl includes an expanded weekly livestream ranking show hosted on Facebook Live every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. The show will highlight the top-performing schools regarding their donation drive, fostering a spirit of competition that has grown to define the event. Notably, no school has ever won the Champions Cup, awarded to the school with the largest jar total, on more than one occasion, emphasizing the competitive nature of this charitable contest.

The 2024 edition of the Peanut Butter Bowl saw Copperas Cove emerge as a major contender, collecting 10,674 jars of peanut butter, which ranked them second overall. Boerne Champion led the event with an impressive total of 24,535 jars. As the event approaches, Copperas Cove High School and other local campuses, as well as various businesses throughout the area, will accept in-person donations during August. The culmination of the Peanut Butter Bowl festivities will be marked by the announcement of top-ranking schools on September 4, 2025, while the cut-off for online donations is set for August 30, 2025, at midnight.

The Peanut Butter Bowl stands as a testament to the power of community and high school football as a platform for social good. It highlights the importance of unifying various communities across Texas in the effort to help families grappling with food insecurity. Local football players, including Cristian Hill and Chauncey Moon, have shared their personal experiences with food adversity, underscoring the importance of this initiative in making a tangible difference in people’s lives.

Originally focused in the San Antonio area, the Peanut Butter Bowl has recently expanded its reach to include additional regions such as Austin, Corpus Christi, and the Rio Grande Valley. Excitingly, a new matchup is set to take place in Houston this season, further amplifying the event’s impact across the state.

The Peanut Butter Bowl not only provides a fun, competitive environment for high school students but also fosters a sense of community responsibility and engagement. As Texas prepares for the event, anticipation is building, with hopes for record-breaking participation and donations that will provide much-needed assistance to those in need.
