San Antonio Launches ‘Project Cool 2024’

In an initiative aimed at keeping seniors safe during the sweltering summer months, San Antonio has launched Project Cool 2024. Comprising a multipartnership of local organizations, authorities, and businesses, Project Cool kicked off with a large-scale free box fan campaign.

Organizations Join Forces for a Worthy Cause

Among the leading forces behind this benevolent venture are the San Antonio Fire Department, an array of Catholic charities, and H-E-B. Warmly embracing the generosity inherent to their community spirit, H-E-B has already donated a remarkable 500 fans to the cause. The primary objective, of course, is to counteract the dangers that extreme heat poses to older adults, especially those with disabilities.

Who Is Eligible?

Project Cool 2024 is offering free box fans to people over the age of 55 who have a disability. To claim a fan, eligible individuals can simply call 2-1-1 and press 1 to be directed to a nearby pickup location.

Pickup Locations

These cooling devices can be collected from the following locations around San Antonio:

  • Catholic Charities – 202 W. French Pl.
  • Guadalupe Community Center – 1801 W César E Chávez Blvd.
  • St. Stephen’s CARE Center – 2127 S. Zarzamora St.

Helping a Worthy Cause

Apart from benefitting from this initiative, those who wish to contribute to Project Cool 2024 can learn how to donate by visiting the project’s page on San Antonio’s official city website. Remember, extreme heat is particularly dangerous to the elderly and disabled, significantly raising the risk of life-threatening heat illnesses.

Protecting Vulnerable Populations

Project Cool 2024 is more than just a community assistance programme—it’s a genuine lifesaver. High temperatures can quickly become deadly for older individuals and people with disabilities. This project aims to alleviate some of that danger and make the summer months safer. So, whether you’re eligible for a free fan or simply want to help out, connect with Project Cool 2024 today and help keep our seniors safe this summer.
