Sletten was born on April 17, 1967, in Fargo, North Dakota, and was adopted on June 15, 1967. He is survived by his beloved spouse, Josie A. Sletten, and their children: Julissa Martinez, Liam B. Sletten, Leif T. Sletten, Anissa Martinez, Shandi M. Holtman (Richard), Brice K. Sletten (Karen), and Vanessa M. Macias (Abel). Additionally, his family includes six grandchildren: Isela L. Macias, Isabella J. Macias, David D. Plante, Bailey R. Sletten, Kaylie G. Macias, and Analie F. Macias. He also leaves behind his siblings: Alvern Reinhold (Rick), Mary Brott, Suzie Clausen (Steve), Sonja LaRoque (Mic), Martha Petsinger (Duane), Christian Sletten (Heaven), and Matthew Sletten (Nichole), as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Anna Marie Sletten and Delmar B. Sletten, his stepmother Janet Menge, and his brother Nicholas Sletten, along with his grandparents.
A Life of Dedication and Hard Work
Raised in Lairmore, North Dakota, Sletten learned the value of hard work on his family’s farm. His dedication extended into his military career, where he served for 20 years in the United States Air Force and retired as a Master Sergeant in 2005. Following his military service, he enjoyed a fulfilling career at Frost Bank as a Credit Analyst Supervisor for 20 years, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues.
In 2014, Sletten completed his Bachelor of Science in Business Management from the University of Phoenix, reflecting his commitment to lifelong learning and personal growth. His passion for family shone through during joyful weeks spent at their cabin on Upper Red Lake, Minnesota, where they created lasting memories through fishing, swimming, and campfires.
Joyful Interests and Community Involvement
An active member of Zion Lutheran Church, Sletten’s strong Christian faith guided his life. He loved music, exploring new places, and enjoyed various outdoor activities, including wine tasting in Texas Hill Country. Known as a devoted fan of the Vikings football team, he never missed a game and was cherished for his skills on the grill, particularly when it came to smoking ribs or searing steaks.
Despite facing his cancer diagnosis head-on, Sletten maintained a positive outlook and was a source of strength and inspiration for his family. He found happiness in simple pleasures, whether swimming, playing games, enjoying campfires, or biking with loved ones. He also treasured moments spent with his dogs, Zoey and Zack.
Memorial Services and Donations
A visitation will take place at Porter Loring Mortuary – West on July 29, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, followed by a prayer service at 6:30 PM. The funeral service will occur at Zion Lutheran Church on July 30, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. A committal service with full military honors will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery from 1:15 PM to 1:35 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Zion Lutheran Church or the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, reflecting Sletten’s commitment to helping others and enhancing community support.
