San Antonio, Texas – A tragic car accident on Southeast Loop 410 resulted in the deaths of two individuals on May 23 at approximately 2:00 p.m. The incident occurred near Moursund Boulevard, where traffic conditions were affected by construction work that had reduced the roadway from two lanes to one.

The victims, a woman in her 50s and a male passenger, were traveling east on the freeway when their vehicle began to slow in response to the merging traffic. Unfortunately, they were rear-ended by a 2014 Chevy Silverado whose driver failed to notice the slowing vehicles ahead. The force of the collision pushed the victims’ vehicle into a guardrail, and after that impact, it was redirected back onto the main lanes of traffic.

Following the collision, the Silverado rolled onto its side and slid across the main lanes. Emergency responders arrived on the scene, but both occupants of the victims’ vehicle were declared deceased at the site of the accident. Their identities have not been released pending notification of their families.

The driver of the Silverado, a 22-year-old male, sustained only minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for precautionary measures. As of now, he has not been charged with any criminal offenses in connection with the accident. However, authorities have opened an investigation to explore the circumstances surrounding the collision. It remains unclear why the driver of the Silverado did not slow down in time to avoid the crash.

The aftermath of the accident caused significant traffic disruptions, leading to the closure of the eastbound lanes of Loop 410 for nearly three hours, as crews worked to clear the scene and investigate the incident. Motorists were advised to seek alternate routes during this time.

Accidents such as this highlight the dangers present on highways, especially in areas undergoing construction. Construction zones often lead to altered driving conditions, which can increase the risk of collisions, particularly when drivers are inattentive or distracted.

In recent years, the rate of accidents in San Antonio has been a concern for city officials and transportation authorities, prompting various safety initiatives aimed at reducing the number of traffic-related fatalities. Investigations into these incidents typically focus on driver behavior, road conditions, and the presence of construction zones.

This unfortunate event adds to the list of tragic accidents occurring on Texas roadways, which have claimed numerous lives. Local authorities encourage all drivers to exercise caution, especially in areas where traffic patterns are altered due to ongoing construction.

As the investigation continues, further information regarding the crash is expected to be released. Authorities are urging anyone with additional details about the incident to come forward.
