San Antonio – A fifth person has died following a tragic crash involving a stolen Chevrolet Camaro that struck a bus on Interstate 35. The latest victim has been identified as 79-year-old Judith Paulsel, who succumbed to her injuries at Brooke Army Medical Center. The accident has thus far claimed the lives of five individuals, including:

  • 78-year-old Maria del Rosario Sanchez
  • 69-year-old Rosalio Aguilera
  • 50-year-old Jose Hector Guerra, the bus driver
  • 42-year-old Alicia Yaneth Cisneros Gonzalez

The bus was transporting passengers from Fort Worth to Mexico at the time of the incident. The crash occurred near Leon Creek when the stolen Camaro collided with a trailer being pulled by the bus. The sudden impact caused the bus driver to lose control, leading to a rollover that ultimately resulted in a collision with a tractor-trailer.

Injuries and Hospitalizations

More than 21 individuals were taken to hospitals for treatment following the crash. Of those, 15 were admitted to University Hospital. As of the last update, two adults remained under care there, while one child and one other adult were reported to be in “good condition.” An additional adult was noted to be in “fair condition.”

Details Surrounding the Stolen Vehicle

The Camaro involved in the deadly incident was stolen just three days prior from a driveway in northeast Bexar County. Surveillance footage captured two men stealing the vehicle; however, there is currently no evidence connecting the suspects to the crash itself, making it unclear if they were present in the car when it sped down the interstate. Following the accident, four individuals were seen fleeing the Camaro. They have not yet been identified or apprehended, with at least one of them reportedly armed with an AK-style rifle.

Community Impact

The family of the bus owner, Jose Guerra, characterized him as a dedicated and hardworking individual who had been serving his family and community for over 20 years. Maria del Rosario Sanchez had traveled to Texas to visit family and was originally from Mexico. Several of the bus’s passengers included children and elderly individuals, some of whom were ejected during the rollover.

Concerns Regarding Safety

The horrific nature of the incident has raised significant concerns within the local community regarding safety and the lack of arrests for the suspects who fled the scene. Local authorities are working diligently to gather more information and bring the individuals responsible to justice, but as of now, questions remain regarding the events leading up to the crash.

The investigation is ongoing, and officials are appealing for any information that might lead to the identification of the fleeing suspects. The community continues to mourn the loss of five lives, bringing a somber reality to a tragic day on Interstate 35.
