San Antonio Community Remembers Beloved Educator Dottie Arzola-Segovia

Dottie Arzola-Segovia, a cherished figure in the San Antonio educational community, passed away on April 30, 2025, at the age of 58. She leaves behind a legacy of love, commitment to education, and deep community involvement.

Born on June 26, 1966, Dottie dedicated her life to her family and the students she taught throughout her more than three-decade career. She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Ruben Segovia, and their five children: Devon DeAngelo, Angela Ortiz (with Steven), Arthur Segovia (with Chasity), Anthony Segovia (with Becca), and adopted daughter Nicole Reyes. Dottie was also a proud grandmother to eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, frequently spending time nurturing and supporting her expanding family.

Dottie’s Impact on Education

Dottie Arzola-Segovia graduated from Incarnate Word High School and later attended Incarnate Word College. She furthered her education by earning a degree in Education Administration from Texas A&M University–Kingsville. Over her 34-year educational career, she influenced the lives of thousands of students and colleagues through her teaching roles at institutions such as South San ISD, Harlandale Alternative Center, and McCollum High School.

In recognition of her hard work and dedication, Dottie was awarded Teacher of the Year in 2023, showing her exceptional commitment to her students and the education profession.

Community Involvement

Beyond her role as an educator, Dottie was deeply involved in her community and actively embraced her cultural heritage. She participated in local organizations such as the Hecho en Tejas BBQ Cooking Team and The Frontier Club, and she was a Lifetime Member of the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo.

A staunch advocate for her faith, Dottie was a dedicated member of St. Gerard’s Catholic Church, where she made significant contributions to her parish community. In addition to her community work, she enjoyed attending local events and festivities, such as Fiesta and the San Antonio Rodeo, and was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, making sure never to miss a game.

Celebrating Dottie’s Life

As friends, family, and the educational community come together to mourn her passing, Dottie’s legacy is characterized by her love, strength, generosity, and an infectious laugh that touched everyone she met. Her adventurous spirit was evident in her passions for the beach, traveling, and making lasting memories with those she loved.

To honor Dottie Arzola-Segovia’s life, a Rosary will be held at St. Gerard’s Catholic Church on May 16, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will immediately follow on the same day at noon. The community is invited to pay their respects and celebrate the life of a remarkable individual who dedicated herself to uplifting others.
