San Antonio – An SUV became stuck in a hole caused by a road buckle near Jefferson High School on Saturday afternoon. The incident occurred just before 2 p.m. on Wilson Drive, near the intersection with Donaldson Avenue.

San Antonio Water System (SAWS) officials identified a 12-inch water main break as the cause of the road damage. The burst pipe led to a significant flow of water, creating a large hole that the driver did not initially recognize as a hazard. The driver, unaware of the danger, drove into the area and subsequently became stuck.

After the mishap, two individuals assisted the driver in climbing out of the SUV through the vehicle’s window. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported as a result of the incident.

It remains unclear whether the SUV contributed to the formation of the hole or if it was already present prior to the vehicle entering the area. Ryan Taylor, a representative from SAWS, noted that aging infrastructure in this older neighborhood is believed to play a role in such occurrences. He indicated that catastrophic failures in water mains associated with older infrastructure can lead to subsurface damage, which ultimately results in road buckling.

In response to the water main break, water service in the affected area was cut off to facilitate repair work. Officials estimate that water service will be restored within four to five hours. Additionally, plans are in place to repair and reopen the road within approximately six hours of the incident.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns about infrastructure integrity in older neighborhoods of San Antonio. As the city continues to face challenges related to aging pipelines and roads, residents are reminded to remain vigilant about local hazards and report any issues to city authorities immediately.

The situation regarding the water main break and the associated road damage is still developing, with further information expected to emerge in the coming hours. City officials are working diligently to ensure the safety of residents and resolve the issues caused by this unexpected event.
