New Braunfels, Texas – Ted Michael Martin, a dedicated member of both his community and the military, passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the age of 76. His life was marked by service, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to bettering the lives of those around him.

Early Life and Military Service

Born on January 8, 1949, in Corpus Christi, Texas, Martin was raised in a large family, being one of twelve siblings in a household with modest means. From a young age, he developed a strong work ethic, which included picking cotton during summer breaks, assisting the janitorial staff in middle school, and working his way up from stocker to checker at a local grocery store while attending high school.

As the Vietnam War escalated, Martin enlisted in the Army along with three friends, participating in the “Buddy System.” He served in active combat from early 1968 to 1969, experiencing one of the war’s deadliest years. His military service involved patrolling jungles and serving as an aerial gunner, which later contributed to health issues stemming from long-term exposure to Agent Orange. Martin completed six years in the military, split equally between active and inactive duty, earning an honorable discharge in 1971 with the rank of E-5 Specialist. His last station was at Fort Sam Houston with the 112th Military Intelligence Unit. Over his military career, he received eight medals, including the Army Commendation Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Career Achievements

Following his military service, Martin transitioned into the retail sales industry and became the first General Manager at Josephs Men’s store. He then pursued higher education, earning an associate degree from San Antonio College, a bachelor’s degree in business, and eventually a master’s degree in Public Administration, becoming the first in his family to obtain a bachelor’s degree.

Martin began his professional career as a rural sales representative with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas. His ambition led him to found the Martin Insurance Group, LLP, which specialized in employee benefits. Under his leadership, this agency became one of San Antonio’s top Veteran-Owned, Minority-Owned, and Independently-Owned agencies. Martin achieved multiple professional insurance designations, including Registered Employee Benefits Consultant and Certified Life Underwriter.

Community Engagement and Legacy

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Martin was deeply committed to community service. He held leadership roles on the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo Board and was actively involved with the Northside Chamber of Commerce and the San Antonio Fiesta Commission. His dedication also extended to local youth, sponsoring sports teams and participating in church activities, exemplifying his commitment to uplifting others.

Alongside these roles, Martin cherished traveling with his wife, Elizabeth. The couple explored various countries and regions, including Brazil, Argentina, Europe, and the Caribbean, creating lasting memories together.

Family and Final Years

Ted Michael Martin is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, their daughter Christine Loudermilk (married to Parker), their son Taylor Martin (married to Monica), and their six grandchildren: McKaylee, Westley, Brantley, Briella, Blakely, and Kambri. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, VVA Chapter #366, or to one’s church.

A Legacy of Service

Martin’s legacy reflects a life dedicated to service, leadership, and love. His impact in both his professional and personal life continues to resonate within his community and family.
