San Antonio Welcomes a New Dining Experience at the Tower of the Americas

In a city known for its vibrant culture and delicious food, San Antonio is stirring up excitement with the unveiling of the new Tower Grove Restaurant and Bar at the base of the iconic Tower of the Americas. This fresh dining spot opens its doors amid extensive renovations to the beloved Chart House restaurant, promising both old favorites and new delights in a stunning setting.

Experience Dining with a View

The address for the new Tower Grove is 739 E César E. Chávez Blvd, conveniently located for both locals and tourists. With a spacious atmosphere that accommodates 240 guests, the restaurant boasts a delightful park-like setting, complete with bubbling fountains, twinkling bistro lights, and lush greenery. Customers can savor their meals while soaking in the beautiful sights of the surrounding area.

Easy Breezy Summer Dining

As summer heats up, Tower Grove is prepared to keep things cool. The restaurant will provide patio umbrellas and fans to ensure guests can comfortably enjoy their meals outdoors, making it the perfect spot for a summer evening out. Whether it’s a date night, a family dinner, or catching up with friends, this outdoor oasis has you covered.

Signature Dishes to Refresh Your Palate

  • Lump crab cake
  • Slow-roasted prime rib
  • Bronzed salmon and shrimp
  • Diner-style smashed burger
  • Fish tacos
  • Chocolate ripple mudpie

Alongside these culinary classics, Tower Grove features a full-service bar, serving up an impressive variety of wines and cocktails to elevate your dining experience.

The Future of the Tower of the Americas

While the excitement builds for Tower Grove, the renovations for the Chart House are set to transform the dining experience even further. The main dining room of Chart House is currently closed, but Bar 601 remains open, serving many of the same delicious dishes. Overall renovations to the Tower of the Americas are projected to cost an estimated $19.4 million and are aimed to be completed by December 2025.

In an effort to keep the beloved dining experience alive, Landry’s Restaurants, Inc., which has operated the Chart House since 2004, is taking the lead in these renovations. The lease agreement between Landry’s and the city has been extended for another five years, signaling a commitment to enhance the Tower for years to come.

Big Changes on the Horizon

Renovations will not only focus on the aesthetics; they will also involve substantial internal improvements, including updates to elevators, plumbing, and electrical systems. A crucial part of this project is addressing safety concerns raised in a 2019 engineering assessment, which recognized risks such as cracked and flaking concrete.

To facilitate these changes, a two-month shutdown of the Chart House is planned for mid-April 2025, right after the NCAA’s Men’s Final Four competition. During the renovation period, Landry’s will temporarily halt rent payments and enjoy a 50% rent reduction for the first three months after reopening, helping the restaurant focus entirely on the improvements.

Supporting the Community

The city has allocated $10 million from the 2022 Bond and an additional $5.4 million from earlier budgets to support this vital project. With the Tower of the Americas originally opening its doors back in April 1968, this renovation hopes to ensure that the Tower remains a beloved staple of San Antonio for many generations to come.

So, whether you’re eager to try out the new Tower Grove Restaurant and Bar or keep an eye out for updates on renovations at Chart House, San Antonio is buzzing with excitement, and the culinary scene is definitely on the rise!
