San Antonio—A tragic accident on Tuesday night claimed the life of 28-year-old Karina Ramirez and left two young girls injured when a pickup truck drove the wrong way and collided head-on with Ramirez’s vehicle. The crash occurred around 9:30 p.m. in the 3800 block of Harry Wurzbach Road, near Eisenhauer Road.

At the time of the accident, Ramirez was driving just blocks from her home after returning to a nearby store to retrieve an item she had forgotten. In the car with her were 9-year-old Skyla Wolford and 7-year-old Aliyah Frautschi, whom Ramirez had taken in and considered as her own children. Shortly after the collision, witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with two women rushing to the vehicle to rescue the girls as fuel leaked from the wreckage.

Following the incident, the girls recounted harrowing details of the crash, stating they remembered bright lights and screaming as they managed to flee the vehicle. Ramirez, tragically, was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the crash, having slumped over in the driver’s seat.

The driver of the pickup truck, 45-year-old Colin Matthew McGuane, was hospitalized with minor injuries and subsequently arrested. He now faces charges of intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault with a vehicle. The police have confirmed that McGuane was intoxicated at the time of the crash, contributing to his reckless driving.

Both young girls are currently hospitalized. Skyla Wolford sustained a broken jaw, while Aliyah Frautschi suffered a broken leg. Family members, including the girls’ grandmother, Eashonne Wolford, have reported that both girls are expected to recover but will need time to heal from their injuries, both physical and emotional.

The accident has deeply affected the family, with Eashonne expressing profound grief over the loss of Ramirez. She has highlighted the urgent need for stricter laws against drunk driving, sharing her own painful experiences with loss due to violence, which adds to her calls for improved safety measures on the roads.

This incident has garnered significant media attention in the San Antonio area, bringing to the forefront ongoing concerns regarding road safety and the prevalence of drunk driving. Community members and local leaders are urged to take action to prevent future tragedies of this nature.

As the investigation continues, authorities are reminding the public of the dangers of driving under the influence, emphasizing that such reckless behavior not only endangers the driver but also innocent lives on the road. The impact of this accident will be felt deeply by the victims’ families and the surrounding community for years to come.
