San Antonio – Authorities are currently investigating a tragic incident that has been described as a possible murder-suicide in San Antonio. The San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) responded to a call regarding this occurrence at a residence situated in the 2400 block of Christian Drive at approximately 1:40 p.m. on Monday afternoon.

Family members of the couple had expressed their concerns after not hearing from them for several days. The couple, who operated a local business, did not open as scheduled on Monday, prompting their relatives to check on their well-being. Upon inspection, family members noticed packages accumulating outside the home, indicating a lack of activity in the residence.

In light of these concerns, the SAPD performed a welfare check which led to the discovery of two bodies inside the home. Both individuals were found to have sustained gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene. Initial assessments from officers indicate that the couple was likely in their 60s.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed the identities of the deceased as Robert Charles Byrd, aged 64, and Gina Byrd, aged 62. In the aftermath of the preliminary investigation, authorities have ruled Gina Byrd’s death as a homicide due to at least one gunshot wound, while Robert Charles Byrd’s death has been classified as a suicide, with the cause being attributed to at least one gunshot wound as well.

Evidence collected from the scene suggests a potential murder-suicide scenario. However, authorities are continuing their investigation, and the official causes of death will be further confirmed by the medical examiner.

A spokesperson for the SAPD, Washington Moscoso, noted that the couple was well-loved within their community and had a large family that is currently mourning their tragic loss. The couple was described as having contributed positively to the lives of those around them, and their untimely deaths have sent shockwaves through their family and the local community.

Authorities are asking anyone with further information related to the case to come forward, as the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the couple’s deaths remains active.

The event underscores the importance of community awareness and support systems, particularly in times when individuals may face personal struggles that go unnoticed. It serves as a poignant reminder of the struggles some may endure behind closed doors.

As the investigation unfolds, SAPD is committed to ensuring that all aspects of this case are thoroughly examined to understand the sequence of events that led to this heartbreaking situation. The community is encouraged to support one another as they process the impact of this event.
